Hanshi Shihan Scott Evans

Hanshi Shihan Evans, the founder of Koyama Dojo, has dedicated over 25 years to studying Hakko Denshin Ryu under Soke LaMonica. Since relocating to Michigan from Akron, OH, in 2004, he has developed Koyama Dojo into the Western hemisphere’s premier Hakko Denshin Ryu institution.

Promoted to his current rank in May 2023, Hanshi Shihan Evans recently saw Koyama Dojo named Honbu Dojo for North America, reinforcing its prominent status. Additionally, he has been honored as the Hakko Denshin Ryu Technical Director of North America.

In addition to his martial arts career, Hanshi Shihan Evans is a successful biotech executive and a dedicated father sharing his passion for Jujutsu with his three children.

Menkyo Kaiden Shihan Joel Reynolds

Shihan Reynolds began training in Hakko Denshin Ryu over 20 years ago under Soke LaMonica. As a Border Officer for the Department of Homeland Security, he uses the techniques of our art on a daily basis. When he was transferred to Detroit, he joined Koyama Dojo with the rank of gokyu (green belt). He was awarded his Menkyo Kaiden Shihan rank in 2017 from Soke LaMonica. He also holds a black belt in Kenpo.

Shihan Reynolds lives in the Metro Detroit area with his wife, daughter, and son.
